Panel Discussion: Tips and tricks for translating academic technologies into commercial products

Timeslot: Thursday, April 28, 2022 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm
Room: Waterview Ballroom, Ground

About

This is an interactive panel that includes representation from companies (large and small), regulatory affairs, and investors spanning a broad range of biomaterials applications (drug delivery, ophthalmic biomaterials, nanomaterials, tissue engineering, etc.). Panelists will discuss challenges with translating academic technologies to viable commercial products, particularly issues associated with de-risking and translating basic research. Discussion will also include how biomaterials products and technologies are valued, including considerations of reimbursement rates. The balance and trade-offs between innovation and translational value will be highlighted as well as the challenges associated with the sometimes divergent values and priorities of academia versus industry.
