Liisa T. Kuhn, Ph.D., FAIMBE, FBSE, FASTM is an Associate Professor/Associate Department Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT. She is a long time SFB member and served as President of SFB in 2016-2017 and received the SFB Award for Service in 2021. Her NIH R01-funded research program is focused on tissue engineering of bone through growth factor delivery approaches. Dr. Kuhn began contributing to ASTM standards writing in 1994 when she was co-founder of a start-up company with Dr. Melvin Glimcher, Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Continually motivated by the critical impact of medical product standards on regulatory approval and product safety and reliability, she has served as task force chair of five published ASTM standards related to tissue engineering cell culture, osteogenesis assays, and biomaterials. She received the Award of Merit with accompanying honorary title of Fellow from ASTM in 2014 and is currently the F04.42 Biomaterials and Biomolecules Sub-Committee Chair. She teaches an undergraduate lab course on ASTM Standards with a focus on standardizing bioprinting. Dr. Kuhn is always ready to assist others with developing ASTM standards or incorporating a standards module in their classroom (Lkuhn@uchc.edu).
